Acne is a ‘natural’ condition, and the treatment for it should be natural as well. So what are some of these natural cures for acne? Remedies vary from the use of herbal products to the use of lights, and to a variety of lifestyle modifications.

These natural cures for acne that include the use of herbs, aim to both reduce the pimples and blemishes that characterize it, as well as minimizing the scars that are left behind on the skin. There is a great number of herbal products used to this end – including tea tree oil, aloe vera, neem and flaxseed oil, among others. These herbal acne remedies promise impressive results – and with a lower potential for side effects – if used properly and regularly. They do take some time to manifest results though, and this can be a drawback for someone looking for quick results.

Then there is the application of light in the treatment of acne – a process called phototherapy. Just like the herbal products, phototherapy aims to wipe out the pimples and blemishes that characterize acne, while at the same time working to heal the scars left behind. The ‘naturalness’ of phototherapy might be contested by some fundamentalists as it depends on the use of some sophisticated machines. But to be fair to it, the main ‘substance’ used here is light, which is natural and qualifies phototherapy to be considered a ‘natural’ treatment.

Another fact that qualifies phototherapy to be considered a natural treatment for acne is its reduced potential for side effects. As it turns out, in spite of the use of sophisticated machines in phototherapy, the process is still astonishgly safe.

Our exploration of natural treatments for acne takes us to lifestyle modifications. For example, having an oily skin can predispose you to acne flare ups, and some of the lifestyle modifications used in treatment might include skin care practices which take away – or at least reduce – skin oiliness. The natural treatments discussed here, not only deal with the already difficult symptoms of acne like the pimples and blemishes, but also goes as far as preventing the future recurrence of the disease, especially if consistently observed.

In addition to skin care practices, other natural treatments for acne might include some modifications to diet – based on the fact that recent research is showing a relationship between acne and certain dietary habits.
