You may be surprised to learn that following a healthy diet you can greatly alleviate your skin’s condition. Perhaps you remember a friend or family member telling you back in high school about French fries and chocolate as a cause of acne, and discarded it as a tale at the time. But they were right, after all. What you consume does affect your skin health, and dietary changes can usually make living with rosacea, eczema, psoriasis, dandruff, dermatitis or severe acne much easier.
Paying more attention on what you are putting into your body each day is a good starting point in recognizing possible pitfalls. Modern American people are following a sort of acne diet, usually full of refined sugars, white flour, high-fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, processed and fast foods, and numerous artificial colors and flavourings. The methods of ultra-processing the foods we eat usually strip out valuable nutrients and vitamins and substitute them with artificial ingredients that can worsen already existing inflammatory conditions.
Some experts declare that toxic build-up in the body is the cause of dermatitis, acne and other skin conditions. Some declare that, due to the toxic nature of many of foods commonly consumed and a weak intestinal lining, our blood can contain a build-up of poisons. The kidneys and liver cannot keep up with the level of filtration needed to rid the body of these toxins. Other organs such as the skin take the role of the fail-over filter. And this leads to skin outbreaks.
Curiously, those with psoriasis seem also to have an increased incidence of food allergies and sensitivities. The most common food allergens are gluten and dairy. That may not imply you have overt lactose intolerance or celiac disease, but a milder sensitivity harder to identify. If you have psoriasis, it can be a good idea to exclude gluten and dairy from your diet to see how your skin responds. Although a vegetarian diet is advised, a few fruits and vegetables such as strawberries, tomatoes, and eggplant can usually make symptoms worse and should be avoided. Other items like fried foods, heavily processed foods, soda, caffeine, and alcohol may cause increased inflammation, and you must absolutely avoid them if you suffer from psoriasis. If you notice any reaction from other foods, it would be wise to stay away from them as well.
A healthy skin diet, rich in fruits and vegetables and their juices, plus the right natural skin care products, may help to mitigate some of the discomfort associated not only with psoriasis, but other skin ailments as well, such as rosacea and acne. In addition to free water amounts, no less than 8 daily glasses, people should aim to fill most of their diet with fresh fruits like mangoes, grapes and peaches, and vegetables such as squash, cucumbers and lettuce. Very reduced amounts of eggs, meats and low-fat dairy products, and olive oil are also suggested. Consuming these kinds of foods is not only beneficial to people suffering from skin conditions, but is also a healthy method for people not currently affected to maintain their healthy skin and avoid future conditions from forming.
